PrintWeek India Awards

The award ceremony for PrintWeek India Awards, country’s most prestigious awards in print, was held in Grand Hyatt, Mumbai on 2nd Oct. Currently in its fifth edition, the awards recognized and awarded some of the best and brightest works of Indian print and packaging industry. Hyderabad based Pragati Offset was the big winner on the night and bagged ‘PrintWeek India Printing Company of the Year’ along with two Quality category awards. Parksons Graphics won three Quality Awards and Spectrum Scan won two Quality Awards.113 print firms and 288 print entries were part of the awards in this year. They were scrutinised by a 40-member jury. A total of 80 print firms were shortlisted for 19 Quality and 6 Performance categories.

Mahatma Gandhi’s great grandson Dr Anand Gokani, an endocrinologist and a diabetologist, was the chief guest for the night. While addressing the gathering Dr. Gokani said, “Print played an integral role in Gandhiji’s attempt to mobilise the masses against British oppression.” Mahatma Gandhi was an astute printer, publisher and journalist. Gandhi edited Indian Opinion, Young India, Navjivan and Harijan. On 7 September 1919, he bought out the Navjivan weekly from Natwar printing press which is located near Khamasa Gate in Ahmedabad. And hence PrintWeek India Awards also payed a rich tribute to the ‘Father of the Nation’ by hosting the event on his 144th birth anniversary.
