Artkriti Exhibition

Folk arts have preserved the essence of India since thousands of years, surpassing the influences brought on by time or by foreigners. The rural folks and the wandering Banjaras (trading community) of India took to art as a ritual or simply a form of expression. Though the mediums have evolved with time, the folk art has not changed much over centuries. Many designs, patterns and motifs have been passed on to the next generations in their original forms. Artkriti is an initiative by Papers by Kyoorius to bring these indigenous folk art forms to you. Twenty paintings travelled from the interiors of all parts of India and will be exhibited at Kyoorius Designyatra 2013 at Goa. These artists were asked to depict their perspective of ‘change’ and exhibit newer influences they observe in their environment.

B2 size limited edition posters of all the artworks will be on sale at Designyatra.

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who helped us transform germ of an idea into this spectacular exhibition. A definite direction to our efforts was given by Tara Books who were generous to share with us the details of some immensely talented folk artists. Delhi based Happy Hands Foundation helped us in commissioning traditional folk artists to create some of these wonderful pieces. Thank you Happy Hands. We are also grateful to Baaya Design who communicated with the folk artists on our behalf and assisted them in creating some of these beautiful works. Baaya Design, a studio based out of Mumbai, is striving to rediscover the indigenous culture and art of the country.
